Appointments & booking

Do I need a referral to see a Chiropractor?
No, in Australia you do not need a GP referral to see a Chiropractor. You can book directly at any time. Some patients are referred by a GP, physiotherapist or other health professional, but this is never required.
How do I book an appointment?
You can book online or get in touch via the contact page. Early booking is recommended, as availability for new patient appointments can be limited.
What are your opening hours?
The clinic is open Wednesday and Friday, 8am–7pm, and Saturday, 8am–5pm. It operates by appointment only, so please book online rather than dropping in. Need a time outside these hours? That may be possible by arrangement, just discuss it with Dr Irfan directly.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Life happens, so just let us know as early as you can so the appointment slot can be offered to someone else. You can manage this through the booking page or by getting in touch via contact.
Can I book if I’m not sure Chiropractic is right for me?
Yes. The initial consultation is built around a thorough assessment first, and if Chiropractic care isn’t appropriate for your situation, you’ll be told honestly and, where relevant, referred to a more suitable healthcare provider.

Your first visit

What happens at my first appointment?
Your initial consultation includes a full health and symptom history, a postural and movement assessment, orthopaedic and neurological testing where relevant, a clear explanation of findings, treatment if appropriate and consented to, and a personalised care plan.
What should I wear?
Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy movement is ideal, think what you’d wear to exercise in. This makes it easier to assess posture and movement properly and, if needed, to access the area being treated.
How long does the first visit take?
The initial consultation runs for up to 60 minutes, covering your history, a thorough assessment, and treatment on the day if it’s appropriate and you’re comfortable proceeding.
Will I be examined before any treatment happens?
Yes, always. Every plan starts with a detailed history and physical examination so that any treatment offered is appropriate for your specific presentation. Nothing is applied as a default before that assessment is done.
Do I need to bring anything, like scans or referral letters?
If you have relevant prior imaging, specialist letters or test results, bringing them along can be useful context, but they aren’t required to book or attend your first visit.

Treatment & techniques

What does a Chiropractor actually do?
A Chiropractor assesses, diagnoses and manages musculoskeletal conditions, particularly those involving the spine, joints and surrounding muscles. Care may include manual adjustments, soft tissue techniques, and exercise advice aimed at improving movement, reducing pain and supporting overall function.
Is Chiropractic treatment safe?
Chiropractic care is generally considered safe when provided by a registered practitioner. Every visit here begins with a detailed history and examination to make sure treatment is appropriate for you, and if it isn’t, you’ll be referred to a more suitable provider.
Do adjustments hurt?
Most adjustments aren’t painful, and many people describe quick pressure followed by relief. Some mild soreness or stiffness afterwards is common, similar to post-exercise discomfort, and usually settles within a day or two.
Will I need an X-ray?
Not routinely. X-rays are only arranged when your history or examination gives a specific clinical reason for one. They aren’t part of a standard first visit, and you won’t be sent for imaging as a matter of course.
What conditions can Chiropractic care help with?
Commonly managed presentations include neck pain, back pain, headaches, sciatica, postural discomfort and general joint or muscular tension. Treatment is tailored to your presentation after a full assessment rather than applied generically.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your condition, how long you’ve had symptoms, your daily activities and general health. Some people notice improvement within a few visits, while longer-standing issues may need a structured plan over several weeks, and this will be discussed with you rather than left open-ended.

Fees & practical details

How much does an appointment cost?
The initial consultation (up to 60 minutes) is $95. Standard follow-up visits (around 15 minutes) are $70, and extended follow-ups (30 minutes or more) are $80. Full details are on the pricing page.
Do you offer private health fund rebates?
Yes. HICAPS is available in clinic and all major private health funds are accepted, so most patients with Chiropractic cover can claim their rebate on the spot at the end of the visit.
Where is the clinic located?
IA Chiropractic is located on Hughenden Drive, Thornlie, WA 6108, in Perth’s southern suburbs. See the contact page for full details.
Do you treat children or older adults?
Yes. Chiropractic care can be adapted across age groups, with techniques modified based on age, health status and comfort. If you’re booking for a child or an older family member, mention this when you book so the visit can be planned accordingly. Dr Irfan doesn’t currently treat babies, but plans to in future with additional training in that area.
Is Chiropractic care suitable during pregnancy?
Many pregnant patients are treated safely with techniques adapted to their stage of pregnancy and comfort. Your history and current symptoms are always reviewed first, so get in touch via contact with any questions before booking.
Who is the Chiropractor at IA Chiropractic?
IA Chiropractic is a private, one-practitioner clinic run by Dr Irfan Amzar (BChiroSc, MChiro, Macquarie University). Read more about his background on the Meet Dr Irfan page.
